Design Trends: Camila Castaneda

For 42 years, Cosentino has innovated homebuilding with surfaces like Silestone and Dekton. We couldn’t think of a better company, or a better person to ask about trends in this space.

Camila Castaneda, Designer Sales Manager, Cosentino

Have you noticed any new trends emerging with materials in 2025?

Great question. I’m here at our CNext Designer event and have the wonderful privilege of seeing the innovation coming to our market soon. I’ve noticed a lot of design trends centered around wellness. For example, an incredible product I just saw was a Kohler x Remedy Place Ice bath that will be launching soon. I thought it was so incredible to see a wellness product be interpreted in the most beautifully designed way. I love how designers are starting to see more beautiful products centered around wellness that can also enhance their projects and look perfect in their gorgeous designs. This goes hand in hand with the sustainability trend we are seeing with a lot of vendors. Being able to use sustainable products all while not compromising on the integrity of the design and performance of products is so huge. I’m so proud to work for a company that has centered sustainability as a core pillar of our work and company. This is something we have in mind in everything we do and helps drive all decision making in our company.

Our recent construction on Birdsall used quite a bit of Cosentino product, particularly Dekton.

I love working with Hunter Smith and the On Point team. They make specifications so easy and come so prepared with their plan on what they’re looking for and what they need from us. It’s always so nice to work with partners that think of every detail and are so ready to hit the ground running in efficiency while still maintaining that level of care and customer service their homeowners love them for. Its building made easy!

What I love about this particular project is that we were really able to educate the homeowner on all the benefits of using not only Silestone but Dekton as well. The homeowners fell in love with a darker, very moody stone from our Dekton brand called Laos. We ended up installing this color in a wall applications in the powder bath. It turned out so beautifully and complimented the rest of the Silestone surfacing you see in the kitchen and throughout the home. I love when we’re able to incorporate other things along with the countertops. Different applications like wall cladding just elevate the space all together!

What are some recent or upcoming innovations in surface materials?

My goodness. So many incredible innovations to look forward to in surfacing. The one that has everyone buzzing is our new partnership with FreePower. This technology will let you have integrated charging right on your surface. The beautiful thing about this is it can be installed in virtually any horizontal surface. Think about being able to just place you phone on your nightstand or on your kitchen island and it charges effortlessly for you. No cables, no outlets, I’m getting excited just thinking about it! This technology is also live so it can be incorporated into any of our countertops with a certified fabricator now.
Another unbelievable innovation we just launched at CNext is our zero silica Silestone. Cosentino has been working endlessly for years trying to make our surfaces less hazardous to fabricate while not compromising on the performance and look of the stone. I was just able to get a sneak peak of these zero silica Silestone slabs and I have to say I was absolutely blown away by these colors. I’ve never seen Silestone look so realistic and its an even better and more sustainable surface. Unreal!

How does the personality of a homeowner affect the materials they use?

Personality and day-to-day customs of a homeowner is everything when specifying for their home. I have the privilege of collaborating with so many incredible designers and homeowners and its so important to get to know what they need and value in their home. For example, we see a lot of homeowners who love to entertain and don’t want to worry about the maintenance and staining on our surfaces. For this we would definitely recommend Dekton because of it’s performance and low maintenance while not compromising on the look and aesthetic. We also get homeowners that love to be creative and push the limits on their design. Homeowners that aren’t afraid to be bold are some of my favorites to work with. Their designs always end up being so unique and fun!

What resources does Cosentino have to help homeowners in planning their next custom home?

We want to be a tool for our homeowners to make their process is as smooth and easy as possible. My favorite thing we have to offer is our beautiful showroom. I love hosting our homeowners here because they can see our full slabs, endless products and installations, and of course go home with samples of their favorite finds. We’ve been lucky enough to renovate our Cosentino Center Houston recently and it really does make such a huge difference to see and feel everything in person. I can’t tell you how many times a homeowner sees something online and then sees it in person and has a different take or ends up loving something else a little bit more when seeing the full slab. It really does make all the difference.

Which room do designers spend the most time focused on?

Definitely kitchens. Homeowners tend to have most of their budget in the kitchen as it’s an area they spend quite a bit of time on. However, I’ve been seeing so much investment going into their outdoor areas and also their bathrooms. Yes of course, kitchens are great and I understand the time and effort that goes into it. In my opinion, we should also be as attentive and detail-oriented in our bathroom and outdoor spaces! These spaces deserve to be as beautiful as the rest of our house. It’s been so awesome seeing the growth and innovation for bathroom and outdoor spaces now-a-days. For example, for the majority of our time, fabrics and finishes have not been as aesthetically pleasing or designed in a high-end way compared to indoor finishes. Why is that!?
Thankfully, we have been able to see a shift in these spaces and homeowners are realizing all the capabilities you have in other spaces other than your kitchen. Don’t compromise!
