At On Point Custom Homes, we understand that choosing a home is about more than just four walls. It’s about finding a community where your family can grow and flourish.
Piney Point Village: From Rail Station to Tree City
Piney Point Village, established in 1885 as a railroad station, has evolved into one of Houston’s most exclusive and affluent communities. But the Village’s history stretches back even further, to 1824 when Stephen F. Austin granted a league of land encompassing the southern half of the modern-day Memorial Villages to John D. Taylor. The Taylors, the first residents of western Harris County, built a log cabin near a spring south of Buffalo Bayou, close to a landmark called “Piney Point.” Though the Taylors eventually left the area, their pioneering spirit laid the foundation for the community that would later develop.
The area’s early history also includes John Richardson Harris, who established Harrisburg downstream in 1826, building a sawmill and contributing to the timber industry that would shape the region’s early economy. Despite setbacks like the burning of Harrisburg during the Texas Revolution, the area persevered, eventually giving rise to the thriving community of Piney Point Village.
Today, Piney Point Village is home to approximately 3,100 residents, with a median age of 50. The community is predominantly white, with a significant Asian population and a small percentage of other ethnicities. The median household income exceeds $250,000, and the median property value is nearly $2 million, reflecting the Village’s affluence and exclusivity.
On Point Custom Homes recognizes the unique appeal of Piney Point Village, with its blend of historical significance and modern luxury. The Village is served by the Memorial Villages Police Department and the Village Fire Department, ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents. The community also benefits from its location within the Spring Branch Independent School District and its proximity to Houston’s cultural and economic centers.
